At Acer’s upcoming Acer event, where the company released an unlimited number of devices and Gadgets for the Press, one of the most outstanding performance was its mixed reality headset.
The company partnered with Microsoft to introduce a new Hololens approach to mixed reality. They had previously worked together to create mixed reality development kits delivered to developers since March to recognize the potential of the device’s capabilities.
Mark Bolas, head of program management at Windows Mixed Reality, mentioned that the Goal of the new device is to merge the physical and digital worlds to create new environments. It looks a lot like a Hololens made by Acer instead. No further details were delved into the product itself, but it was revealed to the public how hard the developers worked to create this product. However, some publishers do not buy.
According to Tom’s hardware, the new HMD is simply a VR headset with Inside-Out tracking. It’s a connected component, which means it doesn’t come with its own processor, GPU, RAM and memory, so it will rely on an existing piece of computer technology. However, the headset comes with 6 depth-of-field tracking sensors to allow the device to accurately capture the layout of the environment. While the Hololens offers physical interaction with the real world with Pass – Through camera technology, Acer HMD has not, which means that the clarity in the definition of mixed reality has not been a bit dark.
The only physical evidence of the HMD being a mixed reality helmet is the pair of cameras that come out of the helmet. In addition to this, the headset has an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and proximity sensor. There are also black bars on the top of the device, but Acer has not yet revealed further details about the HMD to fully confirm the internal specifications.
Although Acer’s intentions regarding HMD XR remain unclear, we are sure that they will be aimed at a very specific audience that can afford to be one of the first adopters of the device. HMDs will be ready to be purchased after this year, and by then there should be a lot of explanations that revolve around the kind of reality that his helmet serves.
